MOSCOW (AP) - President Vladimir Putin’s party won more than 60 percent of the vote in Russia’s parliamentary election Sunday, an exit poll indicated.

United Russia was leading the field with 61 percent of the vote, with the Communists trailing far behind with 11.5 percent, according to the poll conducted by the state-owned All-Russia Opinion Research Center.

Two other pro-Kremlin parties—Vladimir Zhirinovsky’s Liberal Democratic Party and Just Russia—also made it into parliament with 8.8 and 8.4 percent of the vote respectively. The nationwide poll was commissioned by the state-controlled Channel One television.

 TWO Muslim peers have reportedly met with teddy bear row teacher Gillian Gibbons after travelling to Sudan in a bid to free her.

The terrified Liverpool mum of two - convicted of insulting Islam by calling the bear Mohammed - is being held at a secret location after a 10,000-strong mob took to Sudan’s streets screaming: “Kill her, kill her.”

She was sneaked out of the capital Khartoum hours after being jailed for 15 days.

Today Muslim Labour peer Lord Ahmed and Tory Baroness Sayeeda Warsi are expected to meet President Omar al-Bashir to push for her release.

(CBS) Was it routine expenses, or is an apparent skeleton in Rudy Giuliani’s closet really coming out to haunt him? CBS News anchor Katie Couric sat down with the national frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination Thursday.

A report posted on Politico.com Wednesday said that at the time when Giuliani was beginning an extramarital relationship with Judith Nathan, who eventually became his third wife, he billed obscure city agencies thousands of dollars for his police security detail covering trips to visit Nathan.

But Giuliani insists that everything was done in the open, “honestly, honorably, above board.”
